Sony began marketing the film in the U.S. in 2005/2006, using the tag-partner Columbia Tristar; for it in Europe it was not until 2010. In fact, files and packages are dated 2008, perhaps that of 2010 is a reprint. Initially, I thought to take the R1, but fortunately I never did! The master is absolutely identical, but the transfer is not: in the two frames being compared, especially the second, the difference is remarkable. They range from the increased amount of the cleaning in more detail (just see the stripes of the dress), greater porosity of the faces. Sony presents the film in its original format and anamorphic - only the opening credits are letterboxed. Splendid titles too (S. Bass) with the silhouette open early and closes at the end (!).
Video extraordinary levels of definition in some cases more than amazing for a DVD, grayscale perfect. The flaws are two: some artifacts in dark scenes, detailed long shots a little, or better, less detailed than the rest. Very little damage to the film left off. In short, a 'work from Sony,' which should also hold the rights to other European countries, and in fact I do not think Italy has ever seen yet. English Preminger's masterpiece, probably his best movie technically sequence with the plans drawn up and long tracking shots, another variation on the psyche of a master. Curiously, Dullea (known more for the party in 2001 Kubrick), had played a similar role debut film, in a similar film, David And Lisa . Probabilmente, Preminger all'epoca rimase colpito dalle capacità dell'attore.

Paramount
A very dated, but not bad after all. The color scheme is certainly faithful to the original, the chroma is very uniform, even cleaning up high levels. Niente extra.

And here's another "courageous" Italian label, not exactly the brightest, its first Blu-ray. And not an any way, you're talking about Metropolis ! So, as he managed, Hermitage, the recently rebuilt master HD? I would say very competent. And I did not think I would have told you that viewed the disc info "MPEG-2 1080i", I had already prepared usual mess. But I must say that it is not the case at all! Although interlaced, there is no trace of serrations and the like, and the transfer was not affected in any way acceleration PAL. I admit that playing, I could not see a difference with the MoC version. The difference is almost nothing on the screen, only appears brighter on a transfer MoC. Strictly personal: here, have often preferred the bolder blacks and marked Ermitage and this satisfies me more than this - the contrast is more clearly defined, in short. For the vision of the MoC, in fact, I had to decrease the brightness to a minimum. Considering, however, that on every TV, depending the settings, the look can vary slightly, is something that should not be considered either merit or defect. All the glory goes of course to the many people behind the restoration of this classic Who would have thought a Metropolis in Blu-ray almost completely rebuilt? Taking compared to other classic joints in Blu-ray, the image can be considered generally good, with some sequences definitissime hard to believe that it is a movie of '20. If this is true, it is also right to point out a video way too soft on many other occasions, a softness which often involves close-ups - it goes without saying, because of the materials. The scenes were recently rediscovered molto facilmente distinguibili, caratterizzate da perenni linee verticali e una qualità molto inferiore. Il primo punto è del tutto irrilevante per chi scrive, preferendo i muti non musicati, ma va segnalato che la Eureka MoC include a DTS-HD of the new score, while there are only a Dolby 5.1 sull'Ermitage, but it is great. We find in the extra "document" main, or almost one hour documentary on the reconstruction of the film, quite interesting and recorded in HD, a part of it is dedicated also to record the new soundtrack. On this front, Eureka has a little more (see below).

The new version of the film is released simultaneously on DVD also, but the cost (just the price of Amazon) is practically the same. Of course, even more strongly for that reason, interested in purchasing the BD, a great satisfaction at the end accounts.

Extra Ermitage : Die Reise nach Metropolis - Journey "Metropolis" (52 ', in HD, DD 2.0, MPEG-2, 1080i)

Sul retro sono segnalate soltanto tre tracce sub, ma ce ne sono molte altre, come soprariportato. E sì, purtroppo, l'italiano non figura - eppure ce ne sono, eh.

Questo Warner, datato 2002, has recently been reissued, thankfully - entitled High Risk OOP. For the "real" debut Pakula, who is also, coincidentally, the first step of its masterpiece and refined "paranoia trilogy" ( continued with The Parallax and finished with super-classic All Men President ), Warner has done a great job. The clean image is truly remarkable, it is hard to find flaws "physical" of the film. How good is the contrast and the colors do not last very solid. The definition is very good on the first floor, very good on the second (on these occasions, there is a detail not bad to help overcome the limitations imposed SD). The most problematic sequences are those dark, which are quite a few (very night film) and a photograph of G. Willis (the first collaboration with Pakula) does not make the most, however, to be a DVD, the overall yield in these sequences is more than decent. There was definitely a great job on the monaural audio department because English is wonderful. One extra few minutes, a making of , in the end very poor from a technical standpoint, not just in short, if you could save.
Extra: Klute in New York (8 ')
